Distilled at one of the most famous whisky producers in Scotland, this is a fine example of a Macallan single malt. With some of the shortest stills in the industry, Macallan's robust, rich and oily spirit allows for maturation in full-bodied first fill casks.
Macallan is matured for an additional two years in specially selected casks from Koval Distillery in Chicago. These small, 30-gallon, charred American oak casks previously held Rye whiskey. The fresh spicy rye casks combined with the old ex-bourbon cask gives Macallan's spirit a balance of warming and sweet spice. These small casks make for excellent maturation. With a higher wood/spirit ratio than a standard American barrel, the aging affects are intensified. Murray McDavid has an exclusive agreement with Koval distillery and is the only Scotch whisky company to use their unique casks.
