Claxton’s was formed in 2011 with the first range of single cask Scotch whiskies finally ready for a very successful launch four years later in 2015. Building on this with subsequent releases and quickly developing a loyal following across Europe, by 2019 it was time to establish a cask maturation warehouse. One hundred years after the Landale family bought Dalswinton Estate in 1919, Claxton’s moved into Sandbed House on the banks of the River Nith, in the heart of the Scottish Lowlands, and the Dalswinton Bond was born.
In partnership with the Estate, the first stage in this new chapter was an extensive restoration project on the outbuildings at the Dalswinton Bond bringing them back into full use. The extra effort put into the renovations proved very much worth it, resulting in traditional, dunnage-style warehousing alongside more modern racked facilities, perfect for both long-term and short-term whisky maturation in the beautiful Scottish countryside.
Since then, the Claxton’s team have worked tirelessly to make Dalswinton Bond the perfect location to hone our craft by expanding the maturation warehouses, creating a tasting room and archive, as well as developing an onsite blending and bottling facility. This gives us complete control over every process of cask maturation to ensure we continue to achieve the highest possible standards of Scotch whisky making.
The next step was, and forever will be, whisky maturation and bottling. Quality-focused and deliberately selected, the oak casks used at Dalswinton Bond are sourced from specialist producers from across the world with as much care and attention as the spirit that fills them. Quality, variety, and individuality are at the forefront of the Claxton’s ethos when combining spirit and wood for maturation. Every shape, size and type of cask is used for a specific reason. Each of the Claxton’s releases is selected by a passionate, experienced and dedicated team, who have created our entire product portfolio, which currently includes Warehouse No.1 and Warehouse No.8, Exploration Series, Grain Barn and the Dalswinton Series.
The focus and attention given to the cask selection process transfers into each bottling and reflects the forward-thinking energy and ingenuity of the Dalswinton Estate, making it the perfect location for our casks to mature.

This Bunnahabhain may only be 4 years old, but don't judge it by its age! Taken from a Bourbon Barrel, it is packed full of flavor. From the Gaelic, Bunnahabhain (Bu-na-ha-venn), meaning ‘mouth of the river’, a reference to the Margadale, the river from whose clear spring waters the whisky is distilled. Built in 1881, Bunnahabhain is part of the Distell International Ltd family which also includes Deanston and Tobermory. It has produced many global malt editions over many years and the name Bunnahabhain is now widely available as a single malt.

This expression was matured in a St Julienne Second Growth Grand Cru Red Wine Barrique, and whilst we can’t put it on the bottle for IP reasons, the cask is from Chateau Leovilles. Fresh fruit followed by a biscuity maltiness is a predominant characteristic of unpeated Benriach and this expression is no different. It delivers a classic style that epitomises what Scotch Whisky is at its core. Benriach Distillery, owned by Brown Forman, one of the largest US wine and Spirits producers, is well known for its three different types of distillate - all very different in style - classic unpeated, Highland peated, and triple distilled. "Croftengea" is one of the Loch Lomond peated spirit styles and is named after one of the islands on Loch Lomond, located in the heart of the Highlands. Croftengea has an earthy peated style, quite unique to this distillery, and different from the more medicinal peat found in an Islay bottling. Matured in an American Bourbon Barrel, this is an unapologetic peated whisky with pepperiness and vanilla notes from the cask maturation. A spectacular expression for those who enjoy a more robust dram with a flavor profile way beyond its years.

Single malt Scotch whisky distilled in Orkney - though the exact distillery has been left a mystery! Very often from the flavor notes and the name given to the whisky in question, a lot can be deduced! The coordinates on the bottle can be typed into google maps to give you a clue where this whisky was distilled. Aged in a single hogshead for 8 years. The result is notes of honey, light peat, and toffee apples. Have fun with this tasty puzzle.
