On the north east coast of the Isle of Mull, you'll find an ancient distillery, in the picturesque fishing town of Tobermory. Having spent most of its life in a bourbon barrel, the Murray McDavid Whisky Creations Team filled this spirit into a fresh Madeira wine barrique.
Tobermory is matured in a refill bourbon cask to give soft, sweet vanilla and spicy flavours to this meaty malt. It is further matured for nearly a decade in a wine barrique which previously held Tempranillo wine from the Callejo vineyard in the north of Spain. The Murray McDavid Whisky Creations Team then chose to finish this characterful malt in a freshly emptied cask used to mature sweet wine from Madeira, to add rich, integrated fruity notes.

At Murray McDavid, we understand the importance of maturation in the making of whisky. Using our many years of experience and the best oak casks from around the world, we create diverse styles of inspired Scotch whisky.
Our Whisky Creations Team travel the world in search of good wood. We select sherry casks from the bodegas of Spain, fortified wine casks from Madeira, port pipes from Portugal and a wide selection of wine barriques from Europe’s finest vineyards. We also seek out American oak barrels from bourbon makers in the United States and rum casks from distilleries in the Caribbean. We have exclusive wood supply agreements with our cask suppliers, such as the Koval Distillery in Chicago and the Murça wine cooperative in Portugal.
It’s our emphasis on getting the best casks and practising the Art of Maturation that makes Murray McDavid’s whiskies truly special.
