Drouet XO Cuvee Ulysse Meets “The Big Four”

We all know how hard it can be for new companies and underdogs to break into a scene when it already has its stakeholders. In the world of Cognac, “The Big Four” prevail, while many new cognac brands remain outside the spotlight. These industry giants include the brands Hennessy, Courvoisier, Martell and Remy Martin, all of which are acclaimed for their popularity and exceptional tastes.

Drouet Becoming One of The Best New Cognac Brands

Drouet XO Cuvee Ulysse Cognac has been chosen as one of the great cognacs that is capable of competing with “The Big Four”. In a recent Distiller.com article, Drouet XO Cuvee Ulysse was listed as one of the top three cognacs that possesses the same quality as any of “The Big Four”, but at a fraction of the price. It also recently won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, so it’s not surprising that Distiller.com chose it when looking for a great, affordable cognac beyond “The Big Four.”

Drouet is one of the new cognac brands which still uses older distilling practices. On the Distiller website, there is a quote: “History written on the bottle rarely matches the history in the bottle.” This couldn’t be more true when it comes to Drouet Cognac, where family traditions garnered from generations of distillers are meshed with modern-day zen distilling practices

“Modern Style Old-Schooler”

The Drouet family has been involved in producing award-winning cognac for four generations. Master distiller, Patrick Drouet, continues to produce 100% Single Estate Cognac using old-world traditions, but with a modern style. Remaining faithful to the ancient ways, Patrick continues to use the traditional red copper stills, which have a capacity of only 1000 liters. This contributes to the intense concentration of aromas that develop throughout the aging process. Drouet Ulysse cognac, which is aged for 20 years, is named after Patrick’s great, great grandfather, Ulysse Dumargue. Because of his traditional distilling techniques, Patrick has been described as a ‘modern style old-schooler’.  He has learned from the very best and continues to honor the old traditions while also keeping up with modern ways.

A Bottle To Remember

You will recognize Drouet Cognac from its distinguished packaging and unique bottle shapes. Take, for example, the XO Cigar, one of Drouet’s most recent cognac bottlings. It has a punt (indentation at the bottom of the bottle) deep enough to hold your favorite cigar! You will also remember it for it’s unique, intoxicating taste, bursting with flavors of baking spice and lush fruit. The grapevines are tended to on an 80-acre estate, where the mix is then aged for approximately 20 years. It is no wonder that the newest generation of cognac drinkers seek out new cognac brands like Drouet. Drouet is becoming synonymous with “unique”, “classy”, and “on par with ‘The Big Four’.”
